With All Your Heart

Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5–6

Trust in the Lord with “all your heart.” Many of us think “all your heart” means all your emotion and passion. We treat the Christian life like a Romantic movie—if we cry then we’re good. This is wrong because our emotions are only a part of who we are.Instead, God wants us to trust him even when we’re not feeling it. Trust him when we’re angry, anxious, worried, and scared.

‌Usually, we acknowledge God when we’re going through a hard time. But this doesn’t say “Only when your way is difficult acknowledge God.” It says, in all your ways. This means when you're changing the oil in your car, do so with an excited heart ready to serve God. When you pay bills, do so with a cheerful heart thankful that God has provided. All of Christ for all of life. Not some of Christ for some of Sunday. As we approach Christmas, let’s be people who trust in the Lord with all our heart.
