Asking Wisdom Out
For if you cry for discernment, Lift your voice for understanding; If you seek her as silver And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will discern the fear of the Lord And discover the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity Proverbs 2:3-7
For wisdom to be had, it must first be wanted. If you want wisdom you will work for it. And if you work for wisdom, you will find it.
Has any man had trouble before he was married finding a lady to marry? You spend money you barely have taking this girl out to all these restaurants. And after she gets bored with the restaurants, she drops you. You dress nice, take a shower, learn a few fancy vocabulary words, and the next girl rejects you entirely. Not so with wisdom. If you work hard at pursuing her, she will see the effort and respect you with another date.
If you lack wisdom, you must ask God (James 1:5). But when God answers your prayer and gives you wisdom, you then have to pursue it and work for it. Lady wisdom is respectful, but she’s not easy. Most of us when we need help with a decision never go to the Bible yet still blame God for not answering our cries for wisdom. We treat lady wisdom like lady folly who pursues you (see Proverbs 5 and 7). Lady wisdom, rather, waits in her house for any suitor to knock on the door to asking for a date. Since she’s a lady, she must be pursued. So, pursue her!
